Family
Cats: Uncategorized|I love taking a look at society and wondering at the logic, or lack of logic. My son came home last night from staying at his friends over the weekend. Within an hour it looked like a tornado went through the house. He ate all the food that I planned to make leftovers from. Then he got into a fight with his sister because she wouldn’t go fetch his school bag.
I simply asked, ‘did you act like this at your friends?’ A simple ‘no’ was the answer. I asked him why he would treat his family with less respect that he treated his friends. His reply surprised me (remember that this boy grew up in my home). He said that home is where you let down your hair and relax. You don’t need to worry about being nice or stressing. I quickly informed him that home is where he can let his hair down and relax, but he needs to treat home better than he treats his friends - because it is home.
I asked my son who ’said’ that home was a place to dump all your garbage. I asked him to find me a reference. He couldn’t -wherein I won the argument.
It makes me worry about dating couples today. They have no idea what their spouse’s beliefs are, their attitude toward marriage, or their commitment level. I’ve been writing a lot of horror lately. But it always amazes me that no authorĀ - not even King- has conjured in their imagination any hell that holds as much anguish and torment as the one hidden within the homes of suburbia.
