Do you have a favorite book or author? I have books that I fell in love with when I was a child. I purchased a second addition of Anne of Green Gables. I also own several diaries written before 1900. I love reading these books, not to see how different life was back then, but how much the same we are.

I read tonight how Mrs. Boast, Laura, Mary, and Carrie slid wasted away the winter sliding on Silver lake, throwing snowballs, and making a snow man.

A diary I have describes a woman sitting on a buck board. She eats peaches and asks questions while watching the men work. I am sure the men were impressed at her interruptions as they pulled a two man saw between trees that were 3′ in diameter. The funny thing is, I’ve done the same thing with my husband.

I can remember one day where he was 2 stories up - 22′ - trying to fix the gutter. I sat on the edge of our trailer and shouted up questions. My husband remained good humored for several hours. I have learned the recognize that look. The one that lets me know I’ve become exasperating.

It has always amazed me the truth in the statement ‘the more we change the more we remain the same.’
