Visit Medieval Fiction

My friend Mirella Patzer started a great new historical group. She has several excellent review sites and attracts some famous authors to the group. One of the best things about Mirella’s groups is that everyone has a real love for historical fact. We can all ask questions.

What did a wife call her husband in medieval England? “My Lover.”

How many wives could a man legally marry until about the 1600s.  “Four, one right hand wife and three left hand wives.”

Were the first ‘witches’ Satan worshipers?  “No, they were midwives who helped in birth and provided birth control. After the church outlawed them the population of Europe boomed leading to the Black Plague.”

Cinnamon was a common spice in the Middle ages.

Women were not given chloroform (except Queen Victoria who was technically a prince because God would never make the mistake of putting a woman on the throne) as it would make them wanton.

There are a lot more cool ‘tips.’
